Art Exhibition

On the fourth of December, 2008, I went to see an art exhibition with my class. It was an exhibition of sculptures. The artist is Wu Weishan, he is a great artist.
The title of the exhibition is “Wu Weishan’s sculpture exhibition”. All the sculpture there were made by Wu Weishan. The sculptures were both traditional and contemporary. The most famous sculpture there was “Sleeping Baby”. This one won an international award for Wu Weishan.
My favourite sculpture’s name is “A Bing”. This one was made of copper and the most lines were straight. This sculpture showed a famous Chinese folk musician. It was a mid-size sculpture, a little taller than me. It was brown. In this sculpture, A Bing was standing in the strong wind, with his instrument “Er Hu” on his left hand. His clothes were blown up. He also wore an old hat on his head. He wore a pair of sunglasses. He was not wearing them to make himself look cool, the only reason he wore them is he was blind. A Bing looked very thin and weak in this sculpture, it was even a little artistic exaggeration in this sculpture. Maybe it was Wu Weishan’s aim. Anyway, this sculpture showed A Bing was a very poor person.
The sculpture “A Bing” made me feel a little bit homesick because that person in the artwork was from my hometown Wuxi. The sculpture made me think about A Bing’s stories. A Bing loved music and he was very good at it. However, unluckily, he was blind by an accident. He did not give up creating but his achievement did not bring his any money. He became poorer and poorer, at last, he could just beg to get some money. When the Japanese army invasion China, A Bing created a lot of music about againsting the Japanese, that story showed he loved his country so much. The sculpture did not remind me of other things I had seen or experienced but it made thought about my hometown and A Bing’s famous music. The sculpture also related to the wind because A Bing’s robe was floating, it showed me there was some wind. I think the artist’s intention was to show us what is the early Chinese artists looked like, he wanted to tell us although the life was tough, the artists could still keep on working.
I loved this sculpture because of the subject. The subject was a famous Chinese artist from my hometown and Wu Weishan made the artwork liked the real person. A Bing’s robe, “Er Hu”, the sunglasses and the straight lines made me feel this way. I think other people might appreciate this sculpture because this is a wonderful artwork and Wu Weishan made A Bing like real life.
In conclusion, I liked all the sculptures in the exhibition, especially the one called “A Bing”. The reason was the sculptures were very wonderful, and they were all made by one person. From the sculptures, I knew Wu Weishan is a great artist.
